About My Photography, Films and Visual Stories
I am Trond Johansen, a nature photographer, wildlife photographer and filmmaker based in Sarpsborg, Østfold, Norway.
My interest in photography, film and nature started early. From childhood, I spent time outdoors observing forests, water, birds, animals, weather and changing light.
Nature is not only my inspiration. It is where I find peace, purpose and space to reflect on life.
I am drawn to both powerful nature and quiet moments — from waterfalls, storms, northern lights and wildlife to fog, silence, forests and changing light.
Through photography and film, I document landscapes, wildlife, birds, osprey, forests, fjords and northern lights in my local area around Sarpsborg and across Norway.
I have always been fascinated by animals and wildlife, but my work with osprey, known as fiskeørn in Norway, has become one of my most important and time-consuming projects.
In Sarpsborg, Norway, I have spent many hours documenting this beautiful and unique bird of prey through photography and film — from hunting and flight to feeding, migration and quiet moments in its natural environment.

Beyond Norway: Iceland, Tibet and the Himalayas
My journeys to places such as Iceland, Tibet, the Himalayas and China have also shaped me as a photographer and filmmaker.
When I travel, I am interested in more than scenery. I want to document people, culture, traditions, wildlife, landscapes and the relationship between humans and nature.
Iceland has been an important place for my photography and film work, with waterfalls, volcanoes, glaciers, storms and strong landscapes shaped by fire and ice.
Photographing and filming the Eyjafjallajökull eruption in 2010 showed me how powerful and unpredictable nature can be, and gave me even more respect for Iceland and the people who live there.

Respect, Patience and Safety
Nature, wildlife, people, travel and respect
These journeys taught me how important it is to work with respect, patience and humility. When photographing people, I had to respect local customs, religion and ways of life — from Buddhist culture and Tibetan people to the Naxi people in Yunnan.
In Iceland, the same respect was also about nature and safety. Volcanoes are powerful and dangerous, so I had to follow safety advice, plan carefully and wait patiently for the right light, distance and moment.
This has shaped the way I work with photography and film. The projects became stronger and more honest when I slowed down, listened, observed and respected both people, culture and nature.
Conservation, Osprey and BirdLife
I support bird conservation and the work of BirdLife Norway. My long-term work with osprey in Sarpsborg has made me even more aware of how important it is to protect birds, nesting areas and natural habitats.
